摘要
The association between adverse childhood experiences (ACEs) and substance use disorders is well established. However, improved understanding of: 1) which ACEs contribute most to substance use risk; and 2) the mechanisms driving ACE-related substance use risk, could meaningfully focus prevention efforts. ACEs can be characterized as youth-focused (eg, abuse and neglect) or family-focused (eg, parental separation or domestic violence). Here, we examine the relationship between total ACEs, youth-focused and family-focused ACEs, and 2 dimensions of early substance use risk (hopelessness and impulsivity) in Puerto Rican children living in the mainland United States.
