摘要
Available data indicate that the comorbidity between ASD and OCD ranges from 6% to 37%, depending on study methods and clinical heterogeneity. However, the diagnosis of co-occurring OCD can be challenging because features of ASD, such as stereotypic behaviors, sensory-seeking behaviors, and overfocused interests, can resemble symptoms of OCD. Accurate diagnosis of what is or is not OCD is critical to avoid overdiagnosis and unnecessary pharmacotherapy, as well as underdiagnosis and continued lifelong impairment. The goal of this presentation is to provide clinicians with an overview of the literature on OCD in individuals with ASD. This information will be presented in a clinically focused manner such that clinicians will walk away with a general framework about how to conceptualize this condition in ASD.
