These cytokines may either inhibit tumor development or contribute to the chronic inflammation that promotes tumor progression. This yin-yang activity of the tumor-induced cytokines is impacted by several variables such as the tumor type, the stage of the tumor progression, the status of certain receptors expressed by tumor cells, and other microenvironmental components. This special issue will highlight our understanding of the cytokines induced by the tumor microenvironment, review their roles in various stages of cancer development, and identify their potential use in diagnostic and prognostic approaches, including highly generalizable assays and well-calibrated assays of circulating and multiple cytokines. We welcome the submission of original articles, reviews, and perspectives related to, but not limited to: Inflammatory cytokine created within the tumor microenvironmentThe pro- and anticancer effects of cytokines on tumor growthCytokine-induced post-transcriptional and post-translational processesClinical translation of cytokine-based cancer immunotherapiesApplications of circulating cytokine measurementsTechnological advancement in inflammatory cytokine-based diagnosis and prognosisAuthors may vet ideas directly with the editors through e-mail before submitting and should contact the editorial office ([email protected]) with any questions.
