Temperature Distribution in GIS Cable Terminal Subjected to Cold Conditions

GIS cable terminals play an important role in transmission and transformation network, but its frequent explosion and disintegration accidents in cold weather bring great risks to the stable operation of power system. The temperature distribution in the GIS cable terminal has great influences on the mechanical stress and insulation performance. In this paper, based on the principle of heating and heat interaction of cable conductor, the simulation model of internal temperature field is established, and the temperature distribution characteristics of GIS cable terminal under different loads and different low-temperature environments are studied respectively. The simulation results show that the maximum conductor temperature in GIS cable terminal is located at the height of conductor layer and tail pipe, and the minimum is located at the joint of brass flange. The maximum temperature of epoxy bushing is located at the connection between bushing and top fittings, and the minimum temperature is located at the contact between bushing and flange. When the ambient temperature is fixed, with the increase of load current, the maximum temperature of GIS cable terminal gradually increases and the temperature rise rate is obviously accelerated. When the load current is fixed, the maximum cable terminal temperature is basically linear with the ambient temperature, and the relative temperature rise is basically unchanged. This paper may help to provide theoretical support for fault risk assessment of cable terminals.
