Abstract
Methanol, as the raw material of new fuel cells, is flammable, explosive and dangerous. The leakage monitoring of methanol in high-temperature methanol fuel cells is necessary and challenging. Herein, a wide detection range of Yttria Stabilized Zirconia (YSZ)-based mixed potential methanol gas sensor equipped with NiSb2O6 sensing electrode (SE) was developed. The sensor possesses wide detection range of 0.1-500 ppm and presents sensitivity of - 84.13 mV/decade to 5-500 ppm methanol at 570 degrees C. The sensor also has good moisture resistance, reliable repeatability, long-term stability and obvious selectivity for methanol. We also show the adsorption characteristics as well as the possible chemical reaction of methanol with NiSb2O6 material during transmission process. This work offers a new gas-sensing detection strategy for methanol leakage in high-temperature fuel cells and leads to more consideration on the selection of SE materials.
