Oil supply system for horizontal rotary compressor

Unlike general vertical rotary compressors, horizontal rotary compressors have a low suction head, which often causes problems due to insufficient oil supply. To improve the oil supply it is necessary to observe the internal phenomenon of the compressor and supplement the design. However, due to the characteristics of the hermetic compressor, there is a limit to the improvement using an experiment. In this study, multi-phase flow analysis techniques for evaluating and analyzing oil supply performance were established. Verification of the established analysis technique led to high reliability within 6 % of the error range of predicted performance, and the internal flow pattern also presented a tendency similar to the actual phenomenon. The improved design of the oil supply system suitable for the horizontal compressor was selected, and the cause of the difference in oil supply performance was identified using the established multiphase flow analysis technique.
