Abstract
This work proposes a 16T5C driving circuit for mini-LED backlight units (BLUs). Two vertical dimming zones are driven by one circuit to reduce the number of devices in the displays. The circuit successfully compensates for the threshold voltage $(\mathrm{V}_{\mathrm{TH}})$ variations of the driving TFTs and the VSS rises on the power lines to generate stable driving currents. Furthermore, the PWM driving method with the $\mathrm{V}_{\mathrm{TH}}$ compensation of control TFTs is employed to modulate the grayscales precisely. According to the simulation results, the current error rates at different grayscales are less than 5.8% and the driving circuit is capable of controlling two mini-LEDs without deviation. Therefore, the proposed backlight driving circuit is feasible for LCDs.
