A Dynamic Open Educational Resources Repository to Enhance Primary and Secondary Education

Open educational resources (OER) repositories are essential for the Open Education practices. However, they usually only serve as a place to store OER in file formats that make modifications and remixes difficult. In this context, this work presents "aquare!a", a dynamic repository which aims to enable the creation and sharing of OER in open and free HTML format in order to enhance primary and secondary education. Its main contribution is to give the user the flexibility to create, to share, to reuse, to revise and to remix OER under appropriate open licenses in just one place. Additional contributions are the license control, which assists the users to learn about open licenses and use them correctly, and a communication interface to interoperate with other systems, which widens the openness of the repository. A validation study demonstrated that "aquare!a" is: (a) an easy-to-use tool, a key feature to support open practices among users with no solid computer skills and to leverage the achievement of tasks by using a software application; (b) a potential educational tool to disseminate open culture among undergraduate students and enhance their writing and creative skills.
