Die Rückkehr der Ringe: Sequenzierung extrachromosomaler zirkulärer DNAs

Despite being known for decades, the interest in extrachromosomal circular DNAs (eccDNAs) with their distinctive ring-like structures has never been higher. With every day, we learn more about their role in biological processes, including aging and cancer, genome instability, and even, in plants, the development of herbicide resistances. But why is now the time to study eccDNAs? To follow up on this, we highlight recent approaches for enrichment, sequencing, and identification of eccDNAs.
