Backscatter Enhancement Using a Programmable Metasurface

摘要
Planar metasurfaces have been widely used in backscatter enhancement due to its low profile, mature manufacture procedure and unprecedented potential in modifying electromagnetic (EM) wave. In this paper, flexible backscatter enhancement of a programmable metasurface is investigated. The methodology for backscatter enhancement is analysed and a binary basic element of programmable metesurface is designed to facilitate flexible backscatter enhancement. Simulation results validate the ability of the proposed programmable metasurface to enhance backscatter at different situations and to generate diverse scatter patterns by modifying the metasurface pattern. This paper is expected to provide a new paradigm for flexible backscatter enhancement.
