Abstract
In order to investigate the effect of dry friction and different degrees of starved-water lubrication on tribological performance of Thordon material. Friction and wear test were carried out on Thordon/GCr15 friction pair using the reciprocation module of Rtec multi-function tribometer. Additionally, the effect of different loads, and different reciprocating frequency under starved lubrication condition was studied. The wear surface morphology of Thordon material was observed by laser confocal microscope (LCM), and the friction and wear performance was analyzed. The friction coefficient increases with the increase of severity of starved condition. Under the starved-water lubrication, the friction coefficient increases with the increase of load and decreases with the increase of reciprocating frequency. The wear of Thordon material is the most serious under the dry friction. The wear volume and specific wear rate of Thordon material increase as the severity of starved-water condition increase. Under the starved-water lubrication, the wear volume increases with the increase of load and reciprocating frequency, and the specific wear rates decrease with the increase of load and reciprocating frequency. This indicates that the severity of starved-water, the load and the reciprocating frequency of sliding friction have a great impact on the friction and wear performance of Thordon material.
