System Design of a High Resolution Wide Swath SAR Based on MIMO SAR Concept

Multi Input Multi Output (MIMO) based SAR system allows to overcome the trade-off between wide swath and high azimuth resolution imaging of conventional SAR systems. This paper presents end to end system design methodology for High Resolution Wide Swath (HRWS) imaging system based on MIMO-SAR technique. In this paper we have presented, in a procedural format, the system parameter calculation for HRWS system to image 120km swath width at 2m azimuth resolution. Practical limitations in selection of different system parameters and their impact on system performance is also discussed. Feasibility for adding additional imaging modes, possible with proposed hardware are also discussed.
