VHF Active Phased Pilot Array Radar for Atmospheric Remote Sensing Applications at University of Calcutta

A fully functional Pilot active phased array radar operating at 53 MHz is installed at University of Calcutta, Kolkata, India. The pilot array comprising of 19 number three element Yagi-Uda antennas used to sense the atmospheric winds up to an altitude range of 8-10 km. The horizontal winds measured from the pilot array are compared with the collocated GPS radiosonde balloon measurements and a good correspondence has been observed between the two measurements.
