•Forest reserves support sustainable development by providing important ES for human health and well-being.•Bosco Mesola Reserve supplies ESs for 9816 € ha-1yr-1 and stores carbon for 7.2 M€ supporting multiple SDGs.•Air quality regulation by removing PM10 and O3 accounts for 98% of the total monetary value.•ES quantification is fundamental to inform management accounting towards SDGs achievement.
