Emerging evidence supports the ability of zinc to prevent myocardial ischaemic injury, however existing in vivo studies have only been performed in rodents. This study investigated the cardioprotective effect of zinc preconditioning in a clinically-relevant large animal sheep model of ischaemia–reperfusion (IR) injury.
