Abstract
•Higher than optimal temperature during reproductive stage affected maize production.•Elevating SWC mitigated the impacts of heat during reproductive stage.•Higher SWC improved grain weight by 2.0–14.8% and grain yield by 11.8–13.5%.•Higher SWC significantly improved Gmean, Gmax, Pf, DMA, grain weight, and final yield.
