Abstract
An obstetric simulation actively gives participants the opportunity to play through clinical scenarios as realistically as possible and to train both technical skills and non-technical skills in the team. The subsequent debriefing with the participants evaluates the simulation. With increasing insecurity in performing obstetric maneuvers due to lack of practical experience and fear of the immense responsibility, establishing and maintaining simulation training can also be an attractive new way to strengthen and promote interest in obstetrics. In the studies conducted so far, positive results have been seen mainly in participant satisfaction, gaining confidence in performing the maneuvers, improving interdisciplinary teamwork, and in clinical outcome. The implementation of the simulations is cost- and time-intensive; teamwork and communication can only be trained in an interdisciplinary and interprofessional setting (midwives, obstetricians, anesthesiologists). Basic requirements for the simulation include support of the simulation training by the hospital management as well as motivation of the participants and trainers who are trained in debriefing procedures.
