Study of improvements in social housing aiming at sustainability

For the effective fulfillment of the social function of social housing (HIS), it is necessary to adopt measures that guarantee the sustainability of the housing complex. This study analyzes the reality of existing housing units built without due attention to the proposals of the concept of sustainability. Through this study, actions are proposed that compose a general guideline for the improvement of the environmental and sociocultural aspects analyzed contributing to the true application of the tripod of sustainability: environment, economy and culture. This study seeks to understand the influence of sustainable thinking in the reality lived in HIS, in order to identify the existing gaps in order to mitigate them with the proposed guidelines. Through this study, it was possible to identify the existing gaps in the link between social housing and sustainability. Thus, the guidelines presented here act directly on the highlighted point and were built on the basis of data present in the literature and with a survey carried out in housing developments in Belo Horizonte. Thus, it is possible to establish a model for improvements in the well-being and life of low-income residents of HIS.
