Biological collection of mosquitoes of medical importance of the Instituto Nacional de Salud Publica

Objective. To formalize and systematize the INSP/CRISP Biological Collection of Mosquitoes. Materials and methods. Three projects were carried out on the biodiversity of culicids from the Southern, Central Western and Yucatan Peninsula. Results. The mosquito collection concentrate 2 001 curatorial records that including 13 genera, 24 subgenera, and 79 species. The specimens are representatives from 18 states, 205 municipalities and 594 localities. Publications on biodiversity, DNA barcoding sequences and distribution maps of vector mosquitoes in Mexico were generated. Conclusions. The mosquito collection was included in the SNIB Catalog of Collections and Institutions and serves as a reference for regional medical entomology.
