Abstract
•Compete mineralization of 2,4-D was achieved in a two-stage Reduction and Oxidation Synergistic Platform (ROSP).•Continuous removal of 50 μM of 2,4-D in ROSP occurred with an HRT of 12 h.•Co-oxidation of 2,4-D used POA, produced through reductive dechlorination of 2,4-D, as the primary substrate.•H2 and O2 were the only chemical inputs for continuous operation of the ROSP.•By eliminating the input of a primary organic substrate, the ROSP greatly reduced O2 demand and CO2 emission.
