Atherosclerotic changes as part of a natural aging process? Statement of the German Cardiac Society (DGK) on the guidelines of the Pharmaceutical Committee of the German Medical Profession (Akda) 2023 on medicinal lowering of cholesterol for prevention of cardiovascular events

Representatives of the Pharmaceutical Committee of the German Medical Profession (Akda) recently published updated guidelines on the medicinal lowering of cholesterol for prevention of cardiovascular events, which are controversially discussed. On behalf of the Committee for Clinical Cardiovascular Medicine (KKK) of the German Cardiac Society (DGK), the National Association of Cardiologists in Private Practice (BNK) and in cooperation with representatives of preventive cardiology (German Society for Prevention and Rehabilitation of Cardiovascular Diseases, DGPR) a critical statement is presented that gives a perspective on sustainable improvement of cardiovascular prevention.
