•The MBT mycobacteria kit of the Easy MycoEx protocol (Bruker) shows a similar analytical performance for the identification of nontuberculous mycobacteria at cut-offs of 1.6 and 1.8 to the previous MycoEx protocol.•The MBT mycobacteria kit of the Easy MycoEx protocol is easily implemented in routine practice.
