Mushroom husbandry: A tool for pollution control and waste management with job opportunities and revenue for rural communities and farm settlements

•Waste management is a major problem around the world.•Many methods employed towards waste management has either been less effective or unfriendly to the environment.•The use of mushrooms in the cleaning of solid waste (agricultural, recalcitrant and toxic wastes) found within the environment is a promising method that can end up becoming a financial prowess for the economy.•The findings from this research is a pointer to the endless possibilities of wealth acquisition from wastes.
