摘要
A 20-year-old woman underwent camouflage orthodontic retreatment for skeletal maxillofacial asymmetry with maxillary transverse deficiency. With a maxillary skeletal expander, the narrowed maxilla was successfully expanded, the unilateral posterior crossbite was corrected, and the mandibular functional shift was decreased. Self-ligating appliances and microimplant anchorages have been used for camouflage orthodontic treatment. After treatment, the asymmetrical temporomandibular condyle structure was remodeled by a new occlusal and myofunctional balance. Cone-beam computed tomography was performed at various intervals to monitor bone remodeling and condylar position. This case report indicates the correction of transverse discrepancy can be effectively accomplished with screw-assisted maxillary expansion, which improves skeletal maxillofacial asymmetry and avoids orthognathic surgery.
