Abstract
Sensors located on the wrist allow easy and non-invasive access to a wealth of information related to the physiological status and the behavior of the wearer. For this reason, they have been garnering considerable attention in different domains. This chapter presents a comprehensive survey of sensors embedded in wrist-worn devices for both consumer and research applications. Wrist sensors are described in terms of working principle, functionalities and practical issues, highlighting their main applications and promising open directions, with a particular emphasis on sensors allowing to measure physiological parameters for health monitoring purposes.
