A droplet-based microfluidic platform for the study of the effect of oscillation on the growth of E.coli

We propose a droplet based microfluidic platform to study the effect of oscillation on the growth of Escherichia Coli (E.Coli).This platform allows single droplet to be trapped in each chamber and oscillate using an AC electric field. Experimental results shows that droplets can be hydrodynamically sorted when the secondary oil flow rate is greater than 5500 μL/min. Preliminary results using both orbital and linear shakers shows an increase in the growth rate of E.Coli at various perturbation frequencies. We envisaged that the proposed droplet-based microfluidic platform will provide better insights for this study.
