Abstract
Depending on the raw material, microdiesel contains more or less unsaturated fatty acids methyl esters, which will change into polymerised compounds by exposition to oxygen and high temperatures and severely affect the property of microdiesel. The objective of the present work is to determine the effects of culture conditions, such as temperature, pH, hydrolysate sugar concentration, liquid volume and shaking speed on the composition of fatty acids in Rhodotorula glutinis, when the acid hydrolysate of Populus euramevicana cv. leaves acts as the carbon source. To assess the potential of microdiesel as a substitute for diesel fuel, its properties were determined, and most parameters comply with standards of the ASTM related to biodiesel quality.
