The role of Ediacaran synkinematic anatectic rocks and the late-orogenic charnockitic rocks in the development of the hot Araçuaí belt

•The Carlos Chagas domain is a rheologically weak layer developed in the Araçuaí belt.•The Araçuaí hot orogen presents long lasting magmatism of different compositions.•The magmatism can be explained in terms of intracontinental orogeny.•Orogenic plateau develops after efficient partial melting in continental crust.•Plateau development allows for maintenance of high temperature for long time periods.
