First report of Cladosporium tenuissimum causing leaf spots on Solanum lycopersicum in Mauritius

Tomato ( Solanum lycopersicum L.) leaf spot symptoms were observed in various fields in Mauritius. The causal agent of this disease was identified as Cladosporium tenuissimum by both morphological and molecular characterization. A representative isolate was sequenced and deposited on GenBank. Phylogenetic analysis showed that the isolate was grouped with reference isolates of Cladosporium tenuissimum . Pathogenicity test was conducted by inoculating healthy 6 weeks old tomato plants with fungal suspension of Cladosporium tenuissimum and Koch’s postulates were fulfilled by phytopathogen re-isolation and identification. This study provides the first report of the occurrence of Cladosporium tenuissimum on Solanum lycopersicum causing leaf spots in Mauritius and worldwide.
