Abstract
The first measurements of the transverse momentum ( p_T ) spectra of Σ^0 and Σ^0 hyperons in pp collisions at √(s)=7 TeV at the LHC are presented. The Σ^0 ( Σ^0 ) is reconstructed via its electromagnetic decay channel Λ(Λ)+γ , while the Λ ( Λ ) baryon is detected via its decay into p+π^- ( p + π^+ ). The low-energy photon is measured via conversion into e^+e^- pairs in the detector material and in PHOS calorimeter by exploiting the unique capability of the ALICE detector. The complementary results on the first detection of Σ^+ and Σ^- hyperon at the LHC with ALICE are shown in pp collisions at √(s)=13 TeV. The Σ^+ ( Σ^- ) is reconstructed via its weak decay into p(p)+π^0 with a branching ratio of 51.57 % . The low-energy π^0 decays electromagnetically into two photons which detection is also challenging to measure with the ALICE apparatus. In addition, the feasibility of a search for a bound state of proton, neutron and Σ hyperon, i.e. Σ -hypernuclei, is presented on the base of luminosities foreseen for the LHC Runs 3 and 4.
