A Target Speed Adjustment Algorithm for Heavy Haul Train Trajectory Optimization with Section Time Constraint

Abstract
Section time constraint of heavy haul train is fixed trip time requirement of the segments determined by specific locations between adjacent stations. Hence, both the over-all and section time constraints are strict constraints in train trajectory optimal problems. This paper solves heavy haul train trajectory optimization problem by Quadratic Programming (QP). A target speed adjustment algorithm is proposed to deal with section time constraint, which is unable to be solved by traditional QP framework. Numerical experiment with field data is carried out to verify the effectiveness of the proposed algorithm. Simulation results indicates that the algorithm has better performance than the practical driver control, which can reduce the energy consumption by 15%.
