Edu-Car Program for socio-emotional and career development: Process evaluation

The demands of the contemporary world of work require socio-emotional, cognitive and technical skills. Investigations show a positive relationship between socio-emotional skills and results at work, such as better wages, greater productivity and career satisfaction. This study aimed to evaluate the Career Education Program (Edu-Car), which aimed to promote socio-emotional and career learning in first-year high school students from two public schools in a city in the interior of Sao Paulo, Brasil. The intervention was carried out with 44 young people, in twelve meetings, based on the assumptions of Career Education and the Big Five Theory. Data were recorded in a field diary and on evaluation sheets and analysed through content analysis. The results showed gains in socio-emotional and career development and the school was configured as a place of preparation for work and career construction.
