Abstract
This article is the result of a research carried out in the center of the city of Rio de Janeiro that made it possible to discuss different aspects of a warehouse specialized in the sale of enslaved people, the M. Velludo & C. Warehouse, that operated in the old Ourives Street between the 1860s and 1870s. Throughout the text, is discussed the history of this space; the stratigraphic relationships of archaeological records; and the affinities of these materials with elements of Afro-brazilian cults.
