The Role of Osteomies In Rhinoplasty - Evolution and Up-Date

Background Rhinoplasty is a challenging procedure for the ENT surgeon. It must be adapted to the individual needs of each patient, and has to meet both aesthetic and functional requirements. Osteotomies have an important role in achieving good outcome in patients with rhinoplasty. There are various surgical techniques for osteotomies, and many surgical technologies can be used to obtain the desired results. Material and Method The main purpose of our paper is to present the wide range of surgical techniques for osteotomies available today, and to review some historical data in the evolution and development of osteomies. In experienced hands these surgical manoeuvres are an efficient tool in rhinoplasty. Results and Conclusions We consider osteotomies to be a valuable method for obtaining good aesthetic and functional results in rhinoplasty. These are verstatile surgical techniques, and can be adapted to each patient. They can be used alone, or in association with other surgical manoeuvres for the reconstruction of the nose. When performed correctly, osteomies have limited complications, and important benefits.
