The historical Sardinian prison system has been built since the 1830s, as architectures varying in layout, location, size, form, and functional Following their definitive decommissioning, at the beginning of the in the historical outskirts of the cities of Cagliari (Buoncammino), Pausania ("La Rotonda"), are in a state of abandonment, awaiting refunctionalisation. On the other hand, this has also made it possible to launch a study oriented at the knowledge of these factories, developed from the documentary reconnaissance carried out at numerous archival institutions. This contribution proposes a synthesis of the historicalarchitectural events that, for each prison, have been reconstructed from the intertwining of documentary information, the current state of the buildings and the related political-legislative events.
