摘要
Mucormycosis is a deep, opportunistic fungal infection that can be fatal and is brought on by a variety of pathogenic species. It is an uncommon infection that spread widely during the second Covid-19 infection wave. The most prevalent subtype of the numerous varieties is rhino cerebral mucormycosis. In addition to inhalation, lacerated or injured skin can also serve as a port of entry for these fungi. Numerous studies on mucormycosis of mandible have been reported in the literature, but mucormycosis of mandible in Covid-19 patients is very rare. This paper aims to report three cases of mucormycosis of mandible who recently recovered from Covid-19 and presented with typical symptoms of osteomyelitis which was confirmed using computed tomography of face. They underwent thorough debridement, and the debrided tissue was sent for biopsy. After histopathological confirmation, complete resection of involved mandible was performed followed by appropriate antifungal therapy. Since mucormycosis is an aggressive disease, a prompt diagnosis of patients with previous history of Covid-19 and early referral to maxillofacial surgeons is very important which can improve prognosis.
