Towards a Comprehensive Catalog of Architectural and Design Patterns for Blockchain-Based Applications - A Literature Review

Well structured software architectures usually contain a lot of patterns representing abstract solutions to recurring problems. We performed a preliminary literature review to identify existing catalogs of architectural and design patterns which are applicable in blockchain-based applications. The main contributions of this paper are a summary of 12 existing catalogs and our catalog proposal. Because the blockchain domain lacks a clear categorization of patterns, as well as precise descriptions and corresponding evaluations, we plan to continue working on those issues. Our final goal is to simplify the search for useful blockchain patterns.
