Towards an event-image. The "social outbreak" seen by six audiovisual groups (Chile, October 2019)

The article focuses on the work done by audiovisual collectives in the context of the social explosion that emerged in Chile in October 2019. It reviews the emergence of groups such as Colectivo Cinematografico Pedro Chaskel, OjoChile and Colectivo Registro Callejero, as well as the reactivation of others that had previously existed such as CaosGermen, Escuela Popular de Cine and Mapa Filmico de un Pais (MAFI). From the analysis of several shorts, in terms of their discursive and material operations, we will seek to comprehend their role in the context of the social explosion. It is argued that, far from the objectivist, uncritical and saturated use of images proposed by the mass media and social networks, these works are presented as interventions and events based on the accentuation of the formal characteristics of the image. The analysis is organized by assigning a specific modality of intervention to each audiovisual group, namely, to show, stimulate and re-signify, each one promoting a certain performative politics of the images.
