Radiographic grading system for usual interstitial pneumonia correlates with mortality and may serve as a surrogate endpoint in clinical trials

•Our grading system of UIP based on the amount of normal lung was previously shown correlate with pulmonary function tests•Here we demonstrate that the system correlates with mortality, overall and in the short- and long-term follow-up cohorts•These data support its use to monitor disease progression clinically and as a surrogate endpoint in clinical trials
