摘要
Bioacoustics mediated passive and non-invasive monitoring of soundscape ecology has attracted increasing interest for in situ wildlife conservation. The popularity of bioacoustics tools is mainly attributable to their low storage volume, ease of transmission, and the possibility of performing data analysis in a retrospective manner. In achieving high-technology-assisted wildlife conservation, one obvious caveat for installing high-end bioacoustics tools in rural communities is the lack of skilled manpower with concurrent educational and training backgrounds in ecology and Information and Communications Technology (ICT) domains. With a motivation to explore the potential of bioacoustics for ecological research, the University of Tokyo (UT) and the National Trust for Nature Conservation (NTNC) are currently in a pilot phase to understand the usability of bioacoustics technology for wildlife conservation in Nepal. This perspective paper discusses the potential and limitations of bioacoustics studies for nature conservation, particularly in the Nepalese context.
