A decade of planned oocyte cryopreservation: decreasing age, increasing access to care, and improving prognosis
Fertility and Sterility(2023)
Abstract
With the lifting of the experimental label on oocyte cryopreservation in 2012, there has been a steady rise in planned fertility preservation. Early oocyte thaw data, which demonstrated a high frozen oocyte to live birth ratio, was discouraging. It is now well established that the odds of live birth are increased with higher numbers of oocytes frozen at a younger age. The demographic of patients who undergo egg freezing has markedly changed over the past decade, which will likely shift the narrative regarding the efficiency and success of IVF with thawed oocytes.
