Pretreatment With Intravascular Lithotripsy to Facilitate Lead Extraction Making Waves

In what role can and should science and scientists engage with the largest challenges currently faced by humanity? Should scientists focus on presenting the problems and their potential solutions, or is a more active role of science possible and desirable? The new situation that humanity has found itself in requires reconsideration of the social contract that exists between science and the rest of society. Perhaps science, like everyone else, should simply do more, with a stronger focus on sustainability? I describe the incentives for doing so, the struggles involved, and the excitement about an emerging perception that it may be worth our while when engaging in collaborative change processes toward ocean stewardship. When carefully considering the empirical data, there are indications that there is reason to hope.
