•The impact of mismatch after transcatheter aortic valve replacement is debated.•Paravalvular regurgitation rate was high with former valves.•This may have masked the negative effect of mismatch on outcome.•We focused on the SAPIEN 3 valve, which limits paravalvular regurgitation risk.•Mismatch was strongly associated with congestive heart failure at 1 year.
