•A S-scheme heterojunction of MoS2 and Ag2S was constructed.•The MoS2@Ag2S photocatalyst has matched band structure, wide-range light absorption, and high activity.•The photocatalytic H2 production activity of flower-like MoS2@Ag2S reaches 3516 μmol·g−1·h−1.
