Cable-based pattern recognition for close-loop vibration control of membrane antenna

•The proposed cable-based pattern recognition method gives the first-time reconstruction of feedback states.•Accuracy of recognitions and continuity of forces are improved by convolutional average and Kalman filter.•Dynamic patterns can be recognized in an inexpensive and practical manner.•Numerical simulations prove the method achieves full-state-available performance in closed-loop control.
