•BDD/MnO2 electrode is fabricated with porous BDD and MnO2 modification.•Porous structure embows BDD with superior specific surface area.•Adjusting deposition time of MnO2 improves electrode capacitance performance.•BDD/MnO2-1500 s electrode shares capacitance of 1383.6 mF/cm2 at 2 mA/cm2.
