•Use of hydrogen as a Dual fuel in a spark ignition engine.•Pressure, PRR and HRR improved with hydrogen addition.•Improvement in BSEC and BTE with hydrogen addition.•CO2 and NOX emission increased, while CO emission decreased with hydrogen addition.•With hydrogen addition, cyclic variation increased.
