•Fabrication of a heterostructure composite NiO-Fe2O3-RGO (NFR) by hydrothermal.•Collected dye solution at Handloom wastage in Andhra Pradesh.•NFR composite as photocatalyst for the degradation of handloom dye under visible light irradiations.•Antibacterial studies were conducted and showed effective results on E. Coli and S. aureus.
