Abstract
•The tendency of mineral dissolution in hydrocarbon reservoir during CO2 injection varies in different rock types.•A higher temperature condition is expected to increase the rate of CO2-brine-rock chemical reaction.•Carbonate rocks have a higher tendency to chemically react and more susceptible to rock properties alteration.•Permeability and porosity of rock would considerably increase when large pores become opened due to mineral dissolution.•A more elaborate study of the possibility of injecting CO2 in volcanic rocks is proposed.
