Analysis on the transpiration response of Japanese cedar (Crytomeria fortunei) and influencing factors after expansion of moso bamboo (Phyllostachys edulis)

•The leaf area index of Japanese cedar significantly reduced after expansion.•The expansion of moso bamboo significantly reduced the root biomass of Japanese cedar.•Moso bamboo expansion into Japanese cader had contrasting effects on the transpiration of Japanese cedar.•The expansion reduces the root biomass by decreasing the leaf area index and directly affects the transpiration of Japanese cader.
